On the TUF A15 Linux's r8169 found its PHY and read its ID as 0x02460246.
mdio-bus keeps the register it has just read in r11 across
preempt_enable(), which on x86 is `decl %gs:__preempt_count; je` to a
call that preserves every register. LDLS gave __preempt_count zeroes, so
the count reached zero and the call was made -- to a logging stub,
whose syscall left RFLAGS (0x246) in r11. __preempt_count now starts at
PREEMPT_ENABLED (x86 keeps NEED_RESCHED inverted), and preempt_schedule
and its notrace twin are a bare ret.
The same laptop reported its battery full and on AC, unplugged. The EC
owns both, and with no EmbeddedControl handler _REG never told the
firmware the EC was usable, so _BST and _PSR answered their fallbacks.
The EC is found by PNP0C09 or the ECDT and served by the ACPI 12.3
byte protocol, installed before _INI. SCI queries are not handled yet.

Epiphany's main thread spun at 100% on GLib's network monitor. GLib
sizes each netlink datagram with recvmsg(MSG_PEEK|MSG_TRUNC) and no
buffer; that answered 0, GLib read 0 bytes, the answer stayed queued and
poll() said readable again, forever. recvmsg on netlink now peeks
without consuming and with MSG_TRUNC returns what is waiting. A drained
netlink socket also no longer reports hangup -- it has no peer, and
sock_hup took that for a closed one.
SCM_CREDENTIALS under SO_PASSCRED named the process that created the far
end, not the one that wrote to it. For a socketpair those differ: WebKit
makes the pair, hands one end to a child, and learns the child's pid
from the credentials on its first byte. Each end now records its last
writer.
LDLS: napi_consume_skb frees the skb. r8169 frees every sent frame with
it, and as a stub it leaked one per frame until the DMA heap ran out.

The RTL8168 is now driven by Linux's r8169, unmodified, in a process.
`make ldls-r8169` stages it from the running kernel together with libphy,
mdio-bus, mdio_devres and the Realtek PHY driver, the kernel's BTF and
the RTL PHY firmware, and etc/schinit/ldls-r8169.job starts it at boot
with its log in /var/log/ldls-r8169.log. The native driver is out of the
registry; its code, now with Linux's 8168H setup, stays as the fallback.
LDLS grows what that needed:
- ldlsd loads a comma-separated module set in dependency order, each
linking against the ones before it, with BTF read before any
init_module runs;
- a driver core (bus match, driver probe), devres, kernel printf, real
udelay/msleep/ktime and 1000 Hz jiffies, phylib's bitmaps and
link_mode_params, firmware from /lib/firmware, and the symbols whose
stub zero was a lie (list validity, try_module_get, dev_err_probe,
eth_platform_get_mac_address);
- pdev->bus is a real pci_bus, and cmovcc from per-CPU memory is
rewritten like the other %gs forms.
In QEMU all five modules load, link and initialise, and r8169 registers
and finds no device. Probe and traffic are untested until real hardware.
The kernel turns ASPM off on Realtek NIC links at boot, as r8169 does
through pci_disable_link_state, which a process cannot.
Idle CPUs enter ACPI _CST's C2 (CC6 on Zen) by port read or MWAIT when
the APIC timer keeps running, instead of only ever halting at C1.
